This weekend, Katy Jacobsen came to interview me for the Camptonville Courier, our local monthly newspaper. She has been writing columns about people and their animals, and thought the story of a family with five burros would be something unique. This is a photo she shot of me, with my baby burro, Assteroid, who will be celebrating his first birthday next week... with carrot cake, of course. He was born at our place last May, but was conceived on the Sheldon Wildlife Refuge. The gestation period for a baby burro is one year, and his mother, April, was brought in from the wild in January 2004, obviously already pregnant

Your burros are so darling. It sounds like you live in a wonderful place. I'm going to have to look into a nice getaway retreat in your area.
